Kyla - 6 Month Pictures

Kyla @ 6 Months

Kyla turned 6 months old last Wednesday. She also had her 6 month appointment the same day. These are her stats.
  • Height : 24.5 inches
  • Weight : 14 pounds
She is little but mighty. Those are the doctor's words:)

Here is a short list of some of her recent accomplishments...
  • Crawling (or really close to crawling). She has started to do the real crawl once in a while but scoots everywhere.  Basically she gets where she wants to go.
  • Sits alone for short periods of time. She will catch herself now too.
  • She takes two good naps a day. One in the morning and one in the afternoon.
  • She is eating veggies and fruits every evening while we eat supper. I gave up on the cereal. She didn't like it and I don't blame her.
  • She is a decent sleeper. She goes to bed anytime between 8:30 and 9:00 and doesn't wake up to eat again until 7:00ish. Although she usually wakes up once every night and Jared just gives her a paci.
  • She definitely LOVES her sister and brother. She wants to be part of all the action. Most of her day is spent trying to keep up with Makenna and Colin.
And here are the links to what Makenna and Colin were up to at 6 months.

Pinterest Projects : Scavenger Hunt for Kids

We did this the other day while on a walk around our neighborhood. The kiddos seemed to enjoy trying to find all the things on their paper. I definitely think that we will be doing this again.

Return of the Skullet

Anyone remember Makenna's crazy skullet when she was a baby?

Well, Kyla has one too. Although it is not as impressive as Makenna's.

I personally think that it is ridiculous how well our daughters can grow skullets:)

Pinterest Projects : Homemade Pizza Rolls

I have no idea how many times I have made these since I pinned this recipe on Pinterest. We eat these little treats all the time.

They are simple to make and the kiddos love them. Plus the kiddos even like to help make them.

So if you are ever looking for a quick substitute to pizza try these homemade pizza rolls.

Kyla's First Bites of Cereal

I'm a bit behind in blogging about this but about two months ago we gave Kyla her first few bites of cereal. She didn't like it then and still is not a fan of the stuff two months later.

I don't blame her the stuff looks gross and has very little taste. Not much to get excited about.

Here are the pictures to prove how unimpressed Kyla is by her rice cereal.

On The Move

Ever since Kyla has been born she has preferred to be on her tummy. Therefore she has always loved tummy time.

She likes being on her tummy so much that she will immediately roll onto her tummy if you lay her down on her back. It is pretty funny to watch.

All this being said I think that it has strengthened her muscles at a very early age. And as a result of having super strong baby muscles Kyla has started to attempt to crawl.

She has been getting up on all fours now for about three weeks and has recently started the "rocking back and forth" that most babies do right before they really start to crawl.

I am putting this on out blog not to brag but mostly to document Kyla's first crawling attempts. She just happens to be only 5 months old when she decided to accomplish such a task.

Also, in a way it makes me feel like Kyla is not such a baby anymore. I guess in my head the independence gained by a child when they begin to crawl signifies the starting of the end to their babyhood.

So sweet Kyla Grace....slow down a bit and let your mama keep you as a stationary baby a bit longer:)

Pinterest Projests : Dreamy Oreo Bars

This week's pinterest project is....

I have made these twice and both times we loved them. They were quick and simple to make. I would recommend making them though for a party or when you have company because they are very rich and it is hard to work through the whole 9x13 very quickly.

If you like oreos I suggest given 'em a try. They sure are yummy.

Steam Locomotive No. 844

Yesterday we took the kiddos to see a steam locomotive. We live pretty close to the train tracks that run through town so we were able to just walk a few blocks to see the locomotive.

It was pretty impressive and the kiddos thought it was pretty awesome to see a train that close. Makenna kept asking if we could get a ticket for her so she could ride on it.

Something interesting about Steam Locomotive No. 844 is that was the last steam locomotive built for the Union Pacific Railroad.

We purposefully planned on going to see the locomotive shortly before it departed so that we could watch it leave. It was incredibly fun to watch. Although, Makenna said it hurt her ears:)

Blog Title Explained

I have had a few people ask me what the title of our blog means. Well to put it simply it means we now have three kiddos in the back seat of our car.

Yep, you read that right our car. A Kia Optima to be exact. And yes they all fit even while properly secured in their car seats.

I know that you are all dying to see a picture of this amazing feat so with no further adieu...

And no we are not planning on getting a new car anytime soon. Lets just hope the Kia will last several more years:)

Colin's Big News

Colin has some big news......

HE IS POTTY TRAINED!!!!!

It only took a few days and he was completely potty trained. He still wears pull-ups at nap and night time but other than that he is diaper free.

So here is a brief summary about how this all came about.

After Colin turned 2 in May I asked Jared when we should give potty training a shot. I asked this question for two reasons.
  1. Because it seemed like a good question since he was turning 2.
  2. Because Makenna was just 25 months when she was fully potty trained.
So we decided that sometime before the end of summer would be a great goal to have.

Now before I continue with the story I would like to mention that both Makenna and Colin were showing signs that they were ready to be potty trained a few months before I even started to potty train them.
  • The signs:  Interested in talking about the potty. Willing/interested in sitting on the potty. Watching me/Jared use the potty. Telling me that they were pooping if I asked them what they were doing even though they had the tell tale red face.
Let me also say that I was extremely blessed to have two kiddos who caught on very quickly and who were ready to be potty trained when I started.

All that being said, I gave it a shot with Colin a few weeks ago. I went in telling myself that boys tend to be more difficult than girls to potty train and that if he was not ready I wouldn't push him. We would just try again in a few months.

Well, this is how it all played out.
  • Day One - Jared and Colin went shopping to get underwear, M&M's, and carpet cleaner.
  • Day Two - Started potty training. Colin was in underwear and nothing else on his bottom half. He had 2 accidents one in the bathtub (I had to tend to Kyla's crying and Colin was sitting on the potty but because I knew he would get up as soon as I left to attend to Kyla, I put him in the bathtub) and the other was outside. He ended up using the potty the rest of the time.
  • Day Three - One accident (at the park). The rest he went on the potty.
  • Day Four - No accidents.
And it has been that way ever since. He was totally ready and willing. He actually started to tell me when he needed to go by the third day and announcing "Me do it" (meaning don't help me mama). We do still take him frequently but I would definitely say he is POTTY TRAINED.

I am so proud of him and I am really grateful to only have one kiddo in diapers!

Union Park

This past Saturday my parents and I met at Union Park in Des Moines. Let me just say it was well worth the trip to Des Moines.

Has everything that a mama with three kiddos 3 and under could ask for in a park.

It has the usual playgrounds., a huge field to run around in, a carousel (which only costs kids .50 to ride), a huge rocket slide, a splash pad/wading pool, and bathrooms (which are a necessary thing with small children). As well as the other basic things all public parks have.

The kids had a blast and I did too. We will definitely be heading to this park more often especially next summer. When I have a 1, 3, and 4 year old to occupy.

Here are some pictures of our fun.

The Carousel
Proof that it only costs .50 for kiddos. Oh and adults are free if they are accompanying a kiddo!

Kyla was there too!
