Getting Ready For Baby #2

Because Makenna has completely transitioned into her big girl room I decided that I would start to set up a few things in the nursery for "Baby Willis #2".

As a side note, I have been trying to talk to Makenna about the new baby as much as I can. For instance when we go into the nursery I tell her that it is the baby's room, or when she sees/plays with the burp rags and receiving blankets on the shelf in the nursery I tell her that they are for the baby in mama's belly. Most of the time I just tell her these things with no expectations of her completely understanding me but with the hope that once the baby comes she might put 2 and 2 together.

Anyways, back to getting the nursery ready. Makenna decided she wanted to help so as I was organizing the closet Makenna was busy getting things ready for the baby too. Here is a picture of what I saw when I turned around.

As you can see she has put burp rags, receiving blankets, and LOTS of diapers in the bassinet. If you ask me I think she has a good grasp on what it takes to satisfy a newborn's needs:)

New and Unexpected Addition

Interestingly enough, we have noticed that a pair of Cooper's Hawks have made their nest in a tree in our backyard. We have enjoyed watching them. But man they sure have been making a big mess of broken sticks that are the remnants of what they are using for their nest.

Veishea

Here are some pictures from the Veishea parade. The weather was amazing with plenty of sunshine unlike last year. My parents joined us this year for the parade. Makenna had a blast and did really well for her first parade. We also got to see Jared's brother and his family. Makenna loved playing with her cousins. All in all it was a great day.

Makenna's Big Girl Room

Makenna has officially moved into her Big Girl Room!! She has been taking her naps in there for a few weeks now and has started sleeping in there at night now too. This transition for Makenna hasn't been as rough as some others. Lets hope that the transition to becoming a big sister goes smoothly as well.

As for the actual room, I have really enjoyed decorating it. I got the inspiration for the colors from the combination of a baby blanket, a home show house, and pottery barn.

Here is a before and after shot of Makenna's big girl room.

Before

After

Here are a few close up pictures of some of my favorite things from the room.

This is an old barn window from Jared's parent's farm. I just repainted it and added the pictures.

Makenna's blanket was made by Jared's cousin's wife, Dorothy. She did an amazing job! I think it looks perfect in the room. And her bed was used first by my mom and her siblings, then passed down to my sister and I, and now on to Makenna.

I made these based on the picture from pottery barn. They were very simple and quick to make.

I still have a few finishing touches to take care of but for the most part the room is done. Yipee!

The Garden Has Been Planted

Well most of it. The lettuce, spinach, carrots, onions, peas, potatoes, and strawberries have all been planted. We will be adding tomatoes, green peppers, garden peppers, and green beans once the threat of frost is no longer a possibility.

Makenna got in on the action this year. She decided the best way to help was by throwing dirt and sticks into the bucket of water.

All in all, I'm very thankful that most of the garden has been planted and I look forward to enjoying what it yields.

May 12th

Yep that is right...... unless baby Willis #2 decides to come sooner, May 12th is the day we have been scheduled to have our c-section. I really hope that baby #2 does his/her own thing and comes on his/her own time. It makes things more interesting not knowing the day or time or the sex. But that is just me.

Anyways.... we are taking baby boy name suggestions. (no we do not know the sex we just have a pretty definite girl name or two)

I will leave you with the most current pregnancy picture.

Our Little Monkey

This costume was the one Jacob, our nephew, wore when he was 5 1/2 months old for Halloween. Makenna begged to put it on. I wasn't sure it would fit and as you can tell it is a bit small. But man it was way too cute not to snap some pics.

Hunting for Eggs

This past weekend we took a trip down to Indianola where my Grandma lives to celebrate Easter. It was Makenna's first ever egg hunt. She did pretty well. It took her a while to catch on to what was going on. Also, she thought that the eggs were balls. Oh well she got excited about them either way.
